From Spine Surgery to Web Apps

Compression Fracture

This past Friday I quit my job as a Spine sales representative and starting Monday will be pursuing my dream of co-founding an internet startup company.

One of the few things I didn’t like about the old job was that I couldn’t really talk about it in a public forum, like a blog. Being a part of an interent startup is a different animal as people almost expect you to digitally document your successes and will love you even more if you write blog posts about your failures. I hope that most of my stories are successes but if they aren’t I’ll try to be truthful about those too.

Another benefit about this transition is that I can now write about my last job in retrospect and maybe give some advice to those who are interested in professional sales from a non-anonymous perspective (very common in device sales to be anonymous online). I think that the transition from being a sales rep to coding and managing the product development at my new company will also be very interesting. Who says the sales guy can’t be a developer too? Like I say about almost everything, if you want to do something new don’t ask permission, do it.

I really hope that I can share some interesting stories along with some of the tips and tricks I learn along the way.

I’ll keep this space updated with info abou the startup as I can. Keeping quiet for now.

Will be praying for you. Have fun.

This new startup sounds intriguing. Good luck. Hope you have good coworkers.

I would love to hear how you transition from coding back to sales. Congrats on making the jump by the way. I have never done a full-time sales gig, so any tips on how to approach cold-calling or interesting ways to manually do customer acquisition would be awesome. A blog post on getting the first 100 sales for your webapp, I suppose? :)

I think that will be a great blog post. I’ll probably really be able to write that in a few months.
